Why Did My Discord Server Lose Its Boost Level? How Boosts Expire and How to Get the Level Back

Updated: · SlayKeys

A server loses its level the moment its boost count falls below the threshold — 2 for Level 1, 7 for Level 2, 14 for Level 3 — and boosts disappear for three reasons: the monthly boost subscription ended, the person who boosted left the server, or their Nitro (which carries 2 boosts) lapsed. Level perks switch off immediately, though extra emoji and the banner are kept in a hidden state until you re-boost. Here is how to see which boosts dropped and the cheapest way to restore the level.

Why do boosts disappear from a server?

Three causes cover almost every case. First, expiry: every boost is a monthly subscription, so a boost bought on the 3rd lapses on the 3rd if it is not renewed — that includes boosts applied through resellers, which run one month. Second, the booster left: a boost belongs to the member’s account, so if they leave (or are kicked or banned) the boost goes with them. Third, Nitro lapsed: the 2 boosts bundled with full Nitro vanish when the Nitro subscription ends. Server Settings → Server Boost shows who is boosting and since when, so you can see which of the three happened.

What does the server lose when the level drops?

Perks turn off at once: at Level 1 you lose the extra emoji slots, animated icon and better audio; below Level 2 the 50 MB upload cap, banner and 1080p streams go; below Level 3 the vanity URL, 100 MB uploads and the 250 emoji slots. Discord does not delete the extra emoji, stickers or the banner — they are kept but unusable until the level is restored, so re-boosting brings everything back exactly as it was. A Server Tag needs 3 boosts and switches off the same way below that.

How do you get the level back?

Add enough boosts to cross the threshold again — the level restores within seconds. Buying from Discord that is $4.99 per boost per month ($3.49 with Nitro). Through SlayKeys it is $1 per boost, applied to your server by invite link with no login: 2 for Level 1, 8 for Level 2, 14 for Level 3. Boosts from different sources add up, so if you are 3 short you only need to top up the gap (rounded to an even quantity).

How do you keep the level from dropping again?

Renew before the month ends, not after — boosts applied on the same date each month keep the counter above the line continuously. Set a reminder a couple of days before expiry, keep your own 2 Nitro boosts on the server as a buffer, and keep a couple of boosts above the threshold so one member leaving does not drop the level. If you buy boosts in bulk, order them together so they all renew on the same day.

Step by step

  1. Open Server Settings → Server Boost and count the active boosts against 2 / 7 / 14.
  2. Work out the gap and round up to an even number (SlayKeys sells 2, 4, 6, 8 … 14).
  3. Open @slaykeys_bot, pick Discord Server Boosts and the quantity, pay by card or crypto.
  4. Paste the server invite link — boosts land within minutes and the level restores; set a reminder to reorder before the month ends.

Frequently asked

How long does a server boost last?
One month per boost, whether bought from Discord or via a reseller. It has to be renewed to keep the level.
Do I lose my emoji when the level drops?
No. Extra emoji, stickers and the banner are kept but disabled until the level comes back.
If a booster leaves, does the boost stay?
No. Boosts belong to the member; leaving, kick or ban removes them from the server.
How many boosts to get Level 2 back?
Level 2 needs 7 in total. Count what is still active and top up the difference — through SlayKeys that is $1 per boost, in even quantities.
Can I get boosts without giving admin access?
Yes. SlayKeys applies boosts via your server invite link only; nobody needs a role, password or token.
