What a Server Tag is (and where it shows)
A Server Tag is a short badge — up to 4 characters plus a small shield-style icon — that members of a server can wear next to their username. It shows everywhere on Discord: in other servers, in DMs, on the profile card. It works like a clan tag in games: one look and people know what community you rep. Wearing it is optional and personal — each member chooses whether to adopt the tag, and you can wear only one tag at a time.
How many boosts does a server need? Three.
A Server Tag is a direct unlock at 3 boosts. It is not tied to Level 1, 2 or 3 — the tag becomes available as soon as the server holds 3 active boosts, and it stays as long as those boosts stay. If boosts lapse below 3, the tag switches off until the server is boosted again. It's part of the same direct-unlock family as animated gradient role colours (3 boosts) and themed badge packs (2 boosts).
Setting up the tag on your server
Once the server has 3 boosts, the owner (or an admin) opens Server Settings and finds the Server Tag section: choose up to 4 characters and pick the badge icon, then save. After that every member can adopt the tag from their own profile settings — nothing else to configure server-side.
Why you might not see Server Tags yet
Tags rolled out in stages, so the most common reasons the feature seems missing:
- Your app is outdated — update Discord on that device.
- The rollout hasn't reached your account or platform yet — it appears on its own, nothing to enable.
- You're not a member of the boosted server — you can only wear the tag of a server you're in.
- You already wear another tag — it's one at a time; switch in profile settings.
- The server dropped below 3 active boosts — the tag is off until it's re-boosted.
The cheap way to get 3 boosts
Boosting yourself costs $4.99 per boost per month from Discord. Through SlayKeys boosts start at $1 each, and all we need is your server's invite link — no login, no admin access. Boosts are sold in even quantities, so take 4: the spare boost counts toward Level 2 anyway.
Step by step
- Get the server to 3+ active boosts — through SlayKeys it's by invite link only; take 4 (even quantities) and the spare counts toward Level 2.
- Open Server Settings → Server Tag, enter up to 4 characters and pick the badge icon, then save.
- Tell members to adopt the tag in their own profile settings — wearing it is each member's choice.
- Keep at least 3 boosts active so the tag stays on.
