How to Gift Discord Nitro to a Friend — Gift Links, What Happens If They Have Nitro, and the Cheaper Way

Updated: · SlayKeys

You gift Nitro from User Settings → Nitro → Gift, or with the gift icon next to the message box in any DM — Discord generates a single-use discord.gift link, and whoever opens it while logged in gets the subscription on their own account. If they already have Nitro, the gift is stored as Nitro credit and extends their time. Here is how the flow works, what to check before sending, how to spot fake “free Nitro” links, and how to send the exact same official gift for less through SlayKeys.

How do you send a Nitro gift in Discord?

Two places. In User Settings → Nitro there is a Gift button: pick full Nitro or Nitro Basic, one month or one year, pay, and Discord gives you a discord.gift link to share anywhere. In a DM or channel, the gift icon next to the text box does the same and drops the link straight into the conversation. The gift is not tied to a username — it goes to whoever claims the link first while logged in, so send it privately.

What happens if the person already has Nitro?

The gift is not wasted. Discord converts it into Nitro credit — stored subscription time that is applied after their current period ends. Perks never stack, so two gifts do not mean 1,000 MB uploads or 4 boosts, but the months queue up. That is why buying Nitro ahead as a gift is safe, and why a Nitro Basic gift to a full-Nitro user still counts (as Basic credit).

What if the gift isn’t claimed?

A gift sent in chat that nobody claims within 48 hours returns to your gift inventory (User Settings → Nitro → Gift Inventory), where you can copy the link and send it again — it is not lost. Links are single-use: once claimed, they show as already redeemed. If a link claims to be from Discord but points anywhere other than discord.gift or discord.com/gifts, it is a phishing page, not a gift.

Is there a cheaper way to gift Nitro?

Yes — the same official gift link, bought below Discord’s list price. On SlayKeys you pick Discord Nitro (or a Nitro Trial for someone who has never had Nitro), pay by card or crypto and receive a discord.gift link in the chat; forward it to your friend or open it yourself. It is Discord’s own gift pipe, so the perks, badge and credit behaviour are identical. Decorations from the Discord Shop can be gifted the same way.

Step by step

  1. Open @slaykeys_bot, choose Discord Nitro (1 month or more) or Nitro Trial, and pay by card or crypto.
  2. Receive the official discord.gift link in the bot chat.
  3. Send the link privately to your friend — it is single-use and works for whoever claims it first.
  4. They open it while logged in and accept; if they already have Nitro it is added as credit.

Frequently asked

Can I gift Nitro to someone who already has it?
Yes. It becomes Nitro credit and extends their subscription after the current period; perks don’t double.
Do Nitro gift links expire?
A gift posted in chat returns to your gift inventory after 48 hours unclaimed; from there you can resend it. A claimed link cannot be reused.
Can a Nitro gift be refunded?
Discord’s refund rules apply to purchases from Discord; a claimed gift is not refundable. Gifts bought via SlayKeys are covered by our redelivery/refund guarantee if the link doesn’t work.
How do I spot a fake Nitro gift?
Real links are discord.gift/… or discord.com/gifts/…. Anything else — discordgift.xyz, dlscord, a Steam-looking page — is phishing.
Can I gift Nitro Basic?
Yes, Discord lets you gift Basic too; it stacks as Basic credit. SlayKeys focuses on full Nitro and Nitro Trial, which include the boosts and HD perks.
